Palo Santo - Essential Oil
Palo santo ("holy wood"), or Bursera graveolens, is a wild tree native to parts of Central and South America, particularly Ecuador, which belongs to the same family as frankincense and myrrh. The wood of this sacred tree has been used by the indigenous populations of those regions since ancient times to purify and ward against bad energy.
The thin, clear to yellow oil is distilled from dead branches of the tree. The scent is sweet, woody, and slightly citrusy or minty, and may be reminiscent of baked apples or burnt sugar.
It is traditionally used for cleansing, calming, and uplifting, and for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
It blends well with other woods and resins such as cedarwood, frankincense, sandalwood and myrrh, as well as with black pepper, clary sage, cypress, douglas fir, lemon balm, rose, and vetiver.
