VANITAS Eau de Parfum • A candle-lit portrait of delight and shadows; golden orchard fruit, warm amber, worn leather and woods with waxen, powdery overtones.

Notes of: yesterday's fruit under flickering candlelight; cascades of wax pool and set in the ridges of a worn wooden workbench. Warm bread and wilted flowers. A gilded spread, peppered in the soot of bent and burnt wicks. Leather-bound volumes powdered with the dust of time slowly passing, laced with the perfume of imminent decay.

Vanitas, translating to “Vanity”, refers to artworks and tokens of material significance rendered futile in the world of the immaterial. Like its predecessors, the memento mori, they serve to illustrate the questionable value assigned by mankind to objects fleeting in nature, as well as to ephemeral concepts and worldly pursuits. Riches, beauty, fame, conquest, authority, and excesses of delight beyond reason; dazzling displays all for naught.

Will you, or won't you? Delicate parchment perfumed with powdered resins of dragon's blood, myrrh, and benzoin, and imbued with the bittersweet effusions of animalic musks and warm amber. 

Inspired by the purifying smoke of Armenian incense papers, this two-piece set of scented ephemera can either be tucked away, preserved from the passage as it perfumes its surroundings—or—be burnt in offering, allowing for the paper's sweetly-scented smoke to reach the heavens (and for their ashes returned to earth).

The Ritual: These tokens can be preserved to scent drawers, cupboards, and other small spaces, or burnt to scent the home. For burning, fold your perfumed paper into an accordion shape and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Light it, carefully letting the flame catch before blowing it out and allowing the flame to smoulder. Do not burn unattended. 2 perfumed incense papers, sealed.
