Ever since reading of tarragon absolute on Ayala Moriel’s smelly blog, I’ve hoped to find it available to purchase, and so I was super excited to see this here at Lvnea. I didn’t hesitate to buy it, and I’m so grateful I have. I’ve been playing with it for about a month and decided to take more notes on a smelling strip this afternoon just for this review. This is a green vixen, a secret ingredient hiding in plain sight, and has given my creations the perfect touch of verdant aliveness. It’s got a minty camphorous top note that is almost citrus-like in nature. The middle is spicy-sweet and warm, jammy green licorice, and the undertone is sweet, lactonic, slightly peppery and definitely creamy wood. This pairs with chocolate and vanilla in ways you wouldn’t expect, livens up lavender and other florals, and it plays nicely with anything and everything green and grassy in nature, from Galbanum to Vetiver. The perfect touch of herbaceous in so many directions. It’s color is beautiful deep green (just like its scent) and a mobile liquid so it’s easy to work with. I am in love and hope this becomes at staple. Tarragon (estragon) means “little dragon” and as it’s The Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese Zodiac, it’s the perfect time to experiment with this viridescent gem.
